There is something about the act of rebellion and riot which never fails to grab my interest.

Veil of Maya are coming to the end of their European Eclipse tour.

Structures, Volumes, Betraying the Martyrs and Vildhjarta joined them for the ride.

The complete photosets for each act can be seen on my facebook page: Here.

fiN. performed prior to Hooded Fang at Howler’s Sub89 gig on Monday. To my knowledge they are supporting Howler on the UK leg of their tour. They were the most lively band I have seen perform, let alone photographed. Constantly throwing themselves around the stage and performing solos in the middle of the audience fiN. put on a fantastic show to which might photographs don’t do justice!
The crowd didn’t seem to recieve the act as well as they did the others, whether this is due to fiN. being the first act of the night or simply the wrong scene I don’t know. Despite this it would appear the band has quite a strong and dedicated fan following across Europe; they have obviously found the right audience for their Alternative/Indie Rock sound. I would imagine the show they gave at Sub89 would have left their followers begging for more.
fiN. was definately the heaviest act of the night and stood out in contrast against Hooded Fang and Howler. Their sound struck me as quite similar to that of Feeder and The Foo Fighters; whether or not these bands are influences on their style or not I can’t be sure.I did intend to purchase a copy of their album and review it later but was slightly taken aback to find they only sell on 7” Vinyl (with download codes for mp3 copies of their tracks). This disappointed me somewhat. Although I’d love to start buying Vinyl I don’t have access to a working record player; on top of this I take great pride in my rapidly growing CD collection. I don’t like downloading music, I like the physicallity of owning an album. Perhaps one day fiN. will cave in and release on CD but until then, (to my disappointment) they will remain outside of my music collection.
Not wanting to end on a down-note, fiN. are a very good band who show great potential to be the next big British rock group; that is if we ever get over this ‘Northern’ band phase we seem to be going through!
As they are based in South West London and I live in Ascot I hope it won’t be too long before I see them again; this time i’ll know what to expect and be prepared to capture the action!

I Shot Howler on Monday at Sub89 in Reading. Awesome little gig with a great atmosphere. The band played Reading as part of their May tour promoting their debut album America Give Up and will be returning in August to Play Reading Festival.
I had the pleasure of Getting a photograph of Jordan Gatesmith after their performance as my first portrait in my ‘100 strangers’ project.

Hooded Fang, what a truely extraordinary band.
Photography pass to the Howler gig in Reading’s Sub89 introduced me to what is now a strong contender for my new favourite band. Great, happy, dancy tracks, somewhat reminiscent of the music of The Kinks and The Beach Boys. Think Garage punk meets Surf Rock. If I recall correctly their set comprised of a play through of their latest album Tosta Mista which I bought from the merch stand the very moment their set ended.
It can be hard to photograph a band when the music makes you want to dance.
